hey hi guys. well, at home i've got cable net (thru LAN).... i could access the other ppl's comuters until my OS crashed and had to reinstall it.... i did it and now i cant' do that (access the network).... (i had norton personal firewall then and now also).. i am still stuck with it.. today, when i was setting up my college's computer lab, the same thing happened in BRAND NEW COMPUTERS.... am i not installing something or am i not supposed to install something on it to get acces to my network .. in both the cases , i CAN access the INTERNET but NOT THE NETWORK (NOT EVEN THE SERVER)... pelase help me out Chetan Thaker

On this e-mail the setup of your network is not really clear but assuming that you are using win2k on your network and your account and hardware is setup properly. Have you try to ping any computer by name and by IP? If that doesn’t work check the local computers IP and subnet mask. If the mask ends on 0.0 the local computer is not getting the settings from the DHCP. So to fix that you have to check the DHCP Service on your server, the IP scope and the subnet mask. Hey juan well, i tried to ping my computer itself, cant ping with the IP as well as the name of the PC... Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 gateway = 172.16.1.1 the thing is.... 1. i AM on the network (my cable internet company providfes internet thru LAN) 2. i used to browse thru the other users on the network previously before my windows crashed 3. now when i reinstalled WIN 2Kpro, i can't access the NETWORK but i CAN access the INTERNET....
