Hi,
I have no experience with networking, but I have connected 2 computers in order to share a broadband internet connection. I have just connected them directly with a LAN cable and ethernet cards. The network seems to be working. The computers can see each other, there are no conficts, and I can print from my computer to the printer on the other computer. But I cannot view any webpages on the other computer. The broadband connection in working fine on my computer.
Both computers have Windows XP, one with Pro and one with Home. They both have service pack 2 installed.
I really have no idea about networking. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jodi

You need to install ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the HOST PC. That would be the PC that connects directly to the modem.
A good tutorial can be found here.
Homenethelp.comOr you could just buy a router. Which is what I would personally recommend. That way the Host PC won't have to be in order for the client PC to access the internet.
Hope this helps.

Agreed, go with the Router, both units will have internet access independant of the other.
With ICS the Host has to be on for the other to get to the net.

yup, a router is the way to go forsure ,I have 2-4 port routers running with 5pc's online. That way in the future if you want to add more pc's,all you have to do is plug them into any open port. I used to use ICS but found it was more of a pain in the ass then it's worth.
Good luck.

I'm no network whiz-bang, but I think ICS is only needed on 9x.
We ran a w2k box connected to ISP and any PC we plugged into our LAN could see the inet.
BUT,
Jodi, do you have TCP/IP bound to the NIC? It will share files and printers without it, but won't see the inet.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
