hello

I have never seen this problem before.I am on a cable modem and with a Linksys 4-port router. My problem is that i cant access www.google.com and www.altavista.com but i can go on any other websites(as you can see im writting this msg from this cpu)

It says to me the server is down or there is an error with the DNS.The servers are not down because i went on these sites onto another computer 5 min ago.
Also my DNS is set to automaticly obtain DNS from server.

What is going on?

Anyone?

Sounds to me like there could be a problem with the DNS server. My recommendation to you would be to try and ping google.com from a command prompt window. Check to see what ip address it is trying to ping. There is a good possibility that your DNS server has an old entry and that it is pointing to the incorrect ip address. Besides that, if the pings succeed, you may need to delete your browser cookies, If not, you can add a static entry to google by editing your host file under your %Windows_root_foler%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and add an entry to google.com with ip address 216.239.53.99

I hope that helps - regards,
Daniel

If you can get to google by http://216.239.53.99

Then go to Tools - Internet Options delete those Temporary Internet files. Then go to settings and check to look for a new page everytime.

Sounds more like you have been Hijacked by a variation of the the new Q-Hosts browser Hijack. It replaces your DSN Server in Network settings, adds Google.com and other search engine URL's to the HOSTS file to prevent you from accessing them and adds a number of Registry entries.

Go to Control Panel, Network icon, Select the TCP/IP protocol for your Internet access hardware device (Dial-Up adapter or Network adepter or VPN adapter) and select it, and click Properties bar. then select DNS Configuration tab. If there is an 207.x.x.x entry in the DNS Server Search Order. You have been Hijacked by a redirected web site.

Browse to the Windows\HELP folder. If there is a HOSTS file in this folder, you have been HiJacked.

Browse to the Windows folder and open the HOSTS file (not the HOSTS.SAM file) with notepad and go to the end of the file. If there are a list of search engine URL's including google.com, then your browser has been HiJacked.

Please update your Anti-Virus program and then run a full AV scan. Most have new definitions to pick up this new Trojan.
