I have two computers. One is my big 900mhz athlon with win2000 and the other is an old p166 with win98. The 900 has two network cards in it, one going to the p166 and another to a network card. On the 166, I can access the internet, but I can't access the files from the 900 mhz. I also tried setting up the printer which is connected to the 900 and from the 166 I can't access it. Each time I attempt to access the 900 it asks me for a password. I didn't set a password, but even though I didn't, I tried every password that I have and it still tells me I have the wrong password. What password is it asking me for and where do I change/get rid of it? This is driving me nuts. Please help me!

Joshua.

When I said I had one network car going to my 166 and another to a network card, I meant the other to a cable modem! SORRY!

Unless you have a "hub" somewhere in your network, you will need to have a "crossover" cable between the two workstations. Most "patch" cords you pick up are "straight-though" meaning the color codes on the strands are in the same position at each end. You need a cross-over cable. You can test is this is a problem by simply looking to see if the light on the NIC is on, and the activity light is flashing. If not I expect this is the problem

Hey.

Windows 2000 is an extremely secure NOS, so any computer or user for that matter, whether it be local or remote. What you have to do is go into administrative tools in control panel and in the users and passwords create a user with the exact name and password as your login on the Win98 machine.

Otherwise just provide the administrator account name and password when the prompt comes up.

Hope this helps.
