Matt,

Most of the routers out there perform some kind of packet filtering, and by default, they don't let everything through. You'll probably have to modify the configuration to allow those protocols through.

Head to the websites for each software package and ask the technical support folks (or it might be on the web site soewhere) what ports the programs use. Then configure your router accordingly.

Best of luck,
Chase

Well I know for Napster you can set it up so that it ignores your firewall, but in your case all you need to do is open the ports that your programs use on your router. What kind of Router do you have?

napster is easy (or was easy ;) ) you can specify which port you want napster to listen on. I'm looking for information on which port(s) morpheus uses.

I opened up port 1214/tcp on my firewall, but am unable to even register Morpheus with a username/password. I would assume it uses 1214/tcp and not udp. ANy one know if only tcp 1214 needs to be open?

Here is an active portscan of the local machine and the IP/UDP Ports that Morpheus uses...I did it several times and if you pinhole the router/firewall to allow these ports you should be able to get out...some of the ports above 1024 are arbitrary though so be VERY CAREFUL about what ports you open!!!

I have replaces my local IP addr. with XXX.xxx for security purposes...but here is an active scan of the PORTS that Morpheus used
at the time the scan was taken....

Damn... Here we go... My Univ.'s just blocked out Morpheus and Kazaa... sucks... we're behind a firewall.. okay so far I've figured you can bypass the firewall by reconfiguring the port number, Fact... this isn't possible on morpheus client... even my icq was blocked but By putting the server port to 21... damn... anyone figured an alternative client program based on HTTP and not ftp... this seems to slip by...Cheers... and hope..!!

you can change the ports for morpheous. you have to go into regedit and change the hexadecimal entry to what ever port you want to use. It's different for win95/98 than 2000/xp. Email me for details. anomaly5@aol.com
