Reply: (edit) Ok... I have a Brother MFC-420cn printer, with both Ethernet and USB ports for networking purposes. I have a HP-Pavilion ze2000 Laptop.I also have a SMC wireless router, with builtin USB Print server. The idea was to be able to print via the router The Laptop connects to the Wireless router with no problem.(802.11g). Using the USB setup, the printer is connected to the wireless router via USB. The router assigns an IP address to the printer to witch you can get from the printer itself. The ip address is used when installing the software. This is so that the Laptop can locate the printer through the router. Followed all the steps But nothing. I did this method with the Ethernet cord as well. hope you can help with this

Reply: (edit)You should set a static ip address for the printer port not dhcp. You don't want its ip address changing now do you. You need to setup tcp/ip printing to print to the printer on the workstations. Usually this is all outlined in the router manual. Give a person a fish you feed them for a day. Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Reply: (edit)Yes, the Router does assign a IP-address to the printer. and I don't quite understand why would a static IP- address change the issue??. Is it possible that the USB port on the router is faulty??? How can i test it. Kye
