I've got this kinda weird problem...
When playing multiplayer games i cant find anyone when i refresh, only some games react like counter strike and quake. The problem is this: At most games they refresh by the host computer name and not the IP. When i try to ping a computer by its name in command prompt i cant find anything, but when i ping the same computer by its IP i find it right away. Now i've found a solution to some games. I can search for the IP manually, but this isn't an option that many games has. So I really need help with this! If someone knows the solution or has the same problem then please post a reply here. Btw: Yes, my firewall is off, i repeat...OFF!

I can't figure out how you are 'able' to ping by host name anyway, as a game server -or any client connected to it- won't be registered in DNS, which is required to ping by name from command prompt or internet explorer for that matter..

Domain Name System translates the name you type into an IP; this is how you can find ***.yahoo.*** because your computer asks for yahoo, DNS looks up yahoo and send you back IP..and you send request back to IP to get your info.

Now if you were trying to ping from the game console..if this exists..this would be a different story

NETbios is used for "workgroup" networks as Name Resolution. Check these settings and try again.

Nope, those suggestions doesn't fix anything. For Example: We often play Giants, Citizen Kabuto and when I had 98se I could search the local net for hosts and find them without any problems, but now i have to write the IP manually and then search for it in order to find the host :(
