I have three computers connected through a hub and a DSL ethernet modem. The three computers can see each other through the Network Neighborhood but cannot ping eachother. They can ping themselves.
Any ideas?

I am confused, when people say they can ping themselves are they talking their IP or loopback...

Ping 127.0.0.1

Check your cables... 99% of the time it is a Layer 1 problem

Do you have a firewall running, make sure ICMP are not being blocked.

Probably ping their IPs not local loopback address, when you click on network neighborhood, can you access their shares? are you using wins server?

I had a similar problem and it was solved by slowing down the connection. I had a bad pair. Anyway, I could see other comps but couldn't ping, really weird.

Perminant fix, new cables/ends

as mentioned above, try to check the cables.
in RJ45 pin 1-2-3 and 6 is used, the rest can be connected but is not neccesary, 1-2 is a pair (tx) 3-6 is the other (RX) check your hub, normally, on one port u need a crossed cable (used to connect to another hub).

if layer one (physical) is good, try to check the subnetmask and the default gateway. If these settings aren't correct, it won't work either.

ZZ.

What message appears when you send the pings. How is network addressing configured?
