Hi guys,
I am trying to create a linkup between a WinXP notebook and Win2000 PC via a cross-over cable. I've configured the IP addesses on both systems, ie. 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2.
After restarting the PCs, both seems to be able to see each other by pinging each other. In fact, my Win2000 PC can even access my WinXP's shared folders. However, this is not true the other way round. My WinXP notebook cannot access my Win2000 files, after entering the correct username and password. It prompts an error "\\192.168.0.1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network name cannot be found.".
One puzzling point is that I am able to add a network drive to my Win2000's folder on my WinXP after entering the same username and password.
So, can someone pls advise what am I missing??
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
Do you have WinXP HOME or WinXPPro?
What is the Service Pack Number (SP#) of your WinXP and also Win2000?
Do you have NetBIOS over TCP/IP setup in both PCs.
To enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP on Windows XP and Windows 2000:1.Open the Network Connections folder.
2.Right -click the Local Area Connection and click Properties.
.Double -click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click Advanced.
Click WINS.
Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.
What type of Firewalls you have in both PCs?
Do you have the SAME Administartor Login Name and Password in both PCs?
