I've recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer, everything is running smoothly except I simply cannot get on the internet. My modem is working fine, all the lights are on but When I made a new connection in Windows 7 I couldn't connect and gave me an error. Also is said something about asking for a user name and password from my ISP which I put in but didn't work. I went into my XP and everything worked fine.

Any ideas on how i can connect to internet on Windows 7?

Thanks

Possibly, the reason no-one has answered is that you have left out the detail needed to tell what is wrong.

You say you get an error but do not give the detail.

Are we to presume you are dual-booting with XP & Win7 and that the XP works but Win7 does not?

You mention your modem. Is this a cable/DSL modem?
Do you connect to the PC using Cat5 Ethernet cable or by USB?

If you connect using Ethernet cable then have you checked in Win7 to see that appropriate drivers for the network card have been installed?

I am guessing here but suspect you are lacking Win7 drivers for your NIC.

Looks like you have a connection from NIC to modem but cannot communicate with your ISP using Win7.

In Australia Windows7 has had a number of issues with one particular ISP and the fix is still several weeks away.

Have you called your ISP to see if they have any Win7 problems?
