my computer won't allow me to connect to anything that needs a internet connection (internet explorer, limewire, aim, etc), yet when I go to my network settings, it shows that I have a normal connection. this is a desktop that's wireless. obviously i would like to figure out the problem and fix it. thanks in advance for your help

All right, I'm stumped, give us a clue.

What error messages do you get when you try and run something like Internet Explorer.

for internet explorer, i get "the page cannot be displayed"

when i try to sign onto aim 6.1 i get "a server error occurred"

Try rebooting your router. Make sure you disconnect then reboot. Wait for the router to reboot and the reconnect your pc.

i've already tried rebooting my computer along with like 3 different system restores. none of that worked.

it's not a router or modem problem because i have other computers on the network working just fine, and the computer with problems is receiving a signal.
