My network setup is as follows: I have two desktops hardwired into my Linksys WRT54G router. I also have two laptops, one Sony the other Dell, that use wireless to connect to the router. There is no security on the wireless. Wireless is G-Only on Channel 11.
Starting from a week ago, I noticed that after every restart, a laptop would not fully connect to the router; instead, it would say that it had limited or no connectivity and be stuck on "aquiring network address." Eventually I found a "solution" to this problem: the other laptop (which was also on wireless) had to be disconnected from the wireless internet by either physically disconnecting the wireless card or by turning the computer off. Both laptops cannot be online at the same time; if one laptop is connected to the network, the other is stuck on aquiring a network ID.
I tried giving both laptops custom IP addresses through TCP/IP, but that did not fix the problem: only one laptop may be connected at one time.
The number of DHCP users is 50; that should be plenty because I only have 4 computers connected, so it is not that problem.
I also tried to physically connect one laptop to the router through a CAT5 cable while the other laptop was on wirelessly. Still doesn't work. But keep in mind, the two desktop computers work perfectly.
I am at a loss and I cannot even figure out if it is a router problem, or if the wireless and ethernet cards on BOTH laptops went bad at the same time, or if it's some little setting someplace that is wrong on both laptops but not on the desktops.
I appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks!

Tricky . . .
Could it be related to the speed negotiation of the modem / cards. i.e. one of the cards cannot operate at G speeds.
Is there a setting on the device to enable b/g compatibility.

No, it's not that; one laptop is a year old while the other is only a few months old...both have wireless a/b/g capability.
