Hi
I wish to add a new domain to an existing forest across a leased line. The existing mycompany.com domain is in one network range of ip addresses and the newcompany.com domain is in a different range of IP addresses. Will this prevent joining the new domain to the forest? Every time I try i get a message saying "mycompany.com not active directory domain" and the dcpromoui log says:

Enter myDsGetDcName
Calling DsGetDcName
ComputerName : (null)
DomainName : mycompany.com
DomainGuid : (null)
SiteGuid : (null)
Flags : 0x40000000
Error 0x54B (!0 => error)
Trying again w/ rediscovery
Error 0x54B (!0 => error)
Exit myDsGetDcName
Exit getForestName mycompany.com
Enter Popup::Gripe
MessageBox: Active Directory Installation Wizard : The domain "mycompany.com" is not an Active Directory domain, or an Active Directory domain controller for the domain could not be contacted.
Exit Popup::Gripe

Any help gladly appreciated!

I would check your DNS settings. I was getting the same problem and it turned out that DNS had not been set up correctly on the new DC.
