I am working on a computer that had been able to connect to the wildblue satellite system until last week. Now all that happens is Acquiring Network Address, which fails after a waiting period. I replaced the nic, that didn't change a thing. I installed a wireless card, that didn't change a thing. I have DHCP running and the required associates of DHCP are running okay. I uninstalled Panda and disabled Windows firewall so no protection is active and in the way. I can connect to the internet and browse using the modem just fine. When I try to ipconfig/renew, I get an error message that the Support for the specified socket type does not exist in this address family. Before I flatten the system is their a fix?

Google this:
the Support for the specified socket type does not exist in this address family
and you will find some pages that might help.
Also, check your Event Viewer for details then lookup those Event ID's on eventid.net

pcrcs why is there no mention of WHAT you are hooking up TO? Switch? router? what?
Why do you think nic/wireless card was the issue?
Sounds like your router [if that's what you are using] is having problems. Maybe following the first setup steps as in the manual would be a good starting place?
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Thanks for the comments. 1. I googled and hotbotted before going to the forum, but the searches bring up information from Microsoft that requires an error code to select from the various suggestions (there is no error code with this problem), and the searches also bring up stuff on Unix. So I did not find anything useful in the searches for the specific issue.
2. Regarding what the hook up to is, this computer was originally hooked into a Wild Blue satellite modem (using the nic) and worked for about a month. After the nic failed to acquire an address, I replaced the nic with a brand new nic, which did not solve the problem. Since the computer can not get a network address anymore, I tried hooking the computer to a known working wireless g router, but it still cannot acquire an address. So then I tried a wireless pci card, but it still cannot get an address. I think it has to do with the network system because I can connect to the internet using the dialup, but I cannot get anything to work using the network.

Well, it has been days since the last response to this request for help, and no one has provided any help. So I will have to flatten the system and reinstall. So this discussion is done.
