Specs: Windows 7
restored my netbook to factory settings, when restarting it would not connect to my wireless router it said i had to enter a password or the 8 digit number on the back of the router.which i did .then it connected ok .The problem is that now i have a lock symbol on my router lit up and although i can access my netbook and my DESKTOP!!! i cannot get into the router with my phone or tablet or smart tv. i have never had a lock on my router or any probs accessing it .I have tried to access settings on my router but cannot get passed the password page as the default(. admin) does not work. the guy who set up my router is not available any more, and my knowledge of computers ect ect is very slim. I am worried that if i press the reset button on my router i will not be able to reset it as i would not know what i was doing .In summery then is there something simple i can do to fix the problem. Many thanks in anticpation.

What's the make and model of your router?

I've never encountered a lock symbol on a router before but in normal circumstances pressing and holding (10 seconds) the reset button on a router would reset it back to factory / default settings.

Resetting the router would mean setting up all of your security again.

Are you able to access the routers configuration page from the desktop? I'm assuming it is connected to the router via cable as opposed to connecting wirelessly.

Give us the make and model of the router and we will look up the default login details for it. The guy who set up your router should have left you the login details if he changed them. Chances are he didn't and it could simply be a matter of entering admin username and hitting enter leaving the password field blank or entering "password" for the password.
