Comment:

I cannot map a folder being shared by another pc on the network. All the other computers on this P2P network CAN map it.

Suddenly, it will no longer show up in my network places or in the workgroup computers, nor will any of the other PCs on the network...but, the other computers Can see this one.

I do have the same protocols on this one as all the others and the same workgroup name. Just for good measure,I renamed this one on the network. Still...that shared folder will not show up.

However, I CAN Ping it's ip. I also tried to manually MAP it (e.g.\\p2pserver\shared).

The only thing that has changed recently is that the shared folder is now on a new NAS device (Buffalo Linkstation). The shared folder used to be on one of the workstations. However, all the other PCs can see/map it just fine...from day one.

It's just this one PC. It is only differnent from the others in that it is an XP Media Center, and the others are running just XP Home.

Any advice appreciated.
THANKS

forgot to add.....

-While the other computers can see this computer listed in the workgroup computer list, it cannot be browsed (if it is clicked on....a error message will appear indicating the the computer is not accessible/path not found).

-The workgroup computer list on this group has not updated....it still shows those computers available at before the problem started. It is not refereshing to display the other workgroup PCs that are now online.

Thanks

NAS is Linux.

But....before this....all computers were connecting lickity-split...not problems.

They all still are...like a charm. The Linux NAS was almost instant plug and play...on all PCs...except this one (which was connecting no problem before with an XPHome workstation which was doubling as a FS).

...it's gotta be something simple. No other PC on the network has anything shared now (well..one does have it's printer shared as a backup printer)...but that's it.

For anyone referencing this issue with a similar problem...it was the software firewall in the Trend Micro security suite.

It evidently has some sort of auto sensing settings that automatically detect internal network settings at the time it is installed.

Well, since the network config had changed (new router and NAS,etc) after the Trend install, it was evidently blocking those (now) somewhat different signals.

I simply disabled the firewall, the workgroup stuff almost instantly showed up....rebooted for good measure....re-enabled the firewall...it (evidently) auto-sensed the existing lan and allowed it.

Things are as they were. The odd thing is, though, all the other workstations have the SAME config (same Trend Micro suite, same mapping, other apps, etc) and none had this issue. The only different variable with this box is that it's running the special Media version of Windows XP...the others are XP Home.

I am having the same problem. XPP machine with shared data folder, XPH machines trying to map to the share. I sometimes can get one to map and hold the map however the other3 machines I have tried cannot attach. They see the "server" but when I try to map the UNC or IP address, it says "..not accessible. you may not have sufficient rights.

Everything looks good and the one machine that can connect is identical to the others.
So any help is much appreciated
