Hi guys...
Situation...
NT4.0 Server, 2 nic cards, WinProxy 3.0...

W2K workstation, 1 nic card, crossover cable to server plugged into nic #2...

NT Server...
Nic#1 DHCP to get ip address from cable ISP...
Nic#2 IP set to 90.0.0.1/24 per WinProxy instructions...

W2K workstation, NIC set to DHCP per WinProxy instructions...

Both machines will access the internet ok...

NT Server, ipconfig shows both NIC cards with IP addresses and subnets etc all ok...
HD is shared, attached printer is shared...
Server is PDC (I think) with a domain name established...

W2K workstation ipconfig shows IP address/subnet & gateway all ok...

From my W2K workstation I can ping my server, and from the server I can ping my workstation...

I cannot get the W2k to join the domain...

I cannot "see" the "other" computer from either the server or the workstation...

Question one...How can I confirm my NT Server is in fact a PDC???

Question 2...any ideas on why this is not working???

Many thanx for you help...
Steve

Never use a PDC until you have at least 3 servers and at least 20 workstations.

Use workgroup instead is more efficient.

i totally agree with danny. i hope all that crap's not all for home use :)

for win2k to join a domain, go to command prompt and type dcpromo and hit enter, the wizard will load.

but go with danny's advice

Sorry guys...but all this crap is for home use...

I'm trying to put together a "learning exercise"...and will eventually have 3 Win clients and one iMac on it...and I hope to also put on a Novell 4.1l and a Linux box...

So, I'm not taking the "short route"...

howdy Steve!

with all that "crap" eheh, (personaly I like crap :) but I'm just wondering with all that stuff, are you using a firewall? is your fire wall set to BLOCK all accesses to the network until the specific IPs are assigned to NOT be blocked>? I'm not familular with winPROXY other than it has a free download.. but does it(winproxy) perhaps have a firewall/something that can block access to the network as well? if so, maybe you need to tell it to allow your certain nic address/IP address onto the network.( I had the exact same problem, I could access the internet fine on my pcs, but no way was I able to see my shared files nor either of my computers on the network domain..I found out later it was my firewall doing its job very well and doing EXACTLY what i told it to do.. BLOCK ALL attempts at accessing network..haha!)<--more of a question/pondering type thing rather than a REAL suggestion ...
but anyhow, I hope you get it worked out, If ya do I'd be interested in knowing.. <--I'm gonna keep checking back on this one..
