Can ping LAN but not the internet

i have a windows 2003 server i can ping my LAN and My gateway, but when i try to ping or access the internet the result is "Hardware error".
i was working fine before, the only thing i did recently was installing SQL 2005 can that be the reason?

please i need your help

Does the eventlog show any errors about this issue?
What kind of gateway are you using?
Can you access the configuration interface of that gateway, to figure out, whether the problem might be on the gateway?
Have you already contacted your ISP to check, whether the connection from ISP to your gateway is ok?
What does a tracert google.com show?

you mean the event viwer? i didnt see anything about it there.

a firewall

yes, i can access it and i have double checked it, it is ok, also all the other PCs on the LAN can access the internet normally

Have you already contacted your ISP to check, whether the connection from ISP to your gateway is ok?
the connection is fine


What does a tracert google.com show?
unable to resolve target system name google.com

i also tried it by ip the result is:
Hardware error

If there are 2 NICs in the server, have you checked the default gateway settings.
There should only be one NIC with default gateway setting to your internet gateway.
