This is the oddest issue I've ever seen and I'm hoping someone can help. Here is my on going issue:

First issue and hopefully end result:
I'm trying to connect my ASUS P5W Dh Deluxe WIFI-AP Solo to my linksys wrt54g router with newest firmware in infrastructure mode. At first I tried connecting with WPA and even though the key was correct the wifi could never obtain an IP. It would get to obtaining IP address and then fail to Limited or no connectivity. So I removed my security and now the WIFI is able to obtain an IP. However, I still can't connect to the internet!

I know my internet works. I tested it on my laptop. If I go to CMD on my computer in question and try to ping a website, such as www.yahoo.com and www.google.com, I am able to get a ping. However, if I go to a web browser, I get the Web site found...waiting for reply... and it fails to connect. Some sites, such as google, I can get it to partially load, but every site fails.

I have connection. I can ping the outside world. What the hell would prevent IE and firefox from connecting to websites? I've disabled all firewalls. I've removed the ASUS WIFI software and installed the wifi driver directly. I've also tried downloading the newest drivers from realtek themselves.

Second issue:

I installed a wmp54g linksys wifi adapter I had around. Like the WIFI SOLO, I cannot associate to the router. The difference here is, even if I remove security on my router, I still can't associate.

So I went out and bought a brand new wmp54g adapter. Same problem! Can't associate with unsecure/secure network.

What I've tried:

- I've reinstalled XP and I’m working on a clean install. Still have the exact same issues. I have no firewall installed yet and I have XP firewall disabled.

- I read that MTU size of 1500 can cause websites to not load properly but pinging will work. Resolution is to reduce MTU of router and computer to 1492. Didn't work.

- I have 2 laptops and a PSP that are able to connect to the router and internet no problem.

- I can successfully connect to the internet on the computer in question if I use the RJ45 connection to the router instead of wireless. Eh? What the heck?

I have never had or heard of an issue where a computer can connect to the internet over ethernet but cannot associate with multiple wireless adapters and even when it can associate and obtain IP address, to not be able to browse the web when it can ping and resolve DNS names. Any help would be appreciated. No tech support has any idea.

Could this issue possibly be a faulty motherboard? Can a motherboard do this? I'm at my wits end as to what the issue is.

It took me over a week to figure this out on my own...an extremely unique issue that hasn't been addressed on the web. It turns out my overclocked FSB was causing the issue.

I run my FSB at 333 instead of 266. At my wits end I decided to reset my BIOS to default and the Linksys WMP54G started working. So by further testing I figured out it was the FSB. I figured out I'm able to keep the FSB at 333 if I set the PCI Timing to manual 33.33 instead of auto (I thought I did this already...oops). All of this trouble due to one little setting in the BIOS.

However, I'm still not able to get the onboard Asus WIFI to work. But at least I can get something to work. Finally!

Now to try and return the unnecessary linksys to Best Buy.
