Subject: Can Ping but Can't Map or Print
Comment:

Win2000, Fixed TCP/IP Addresses, Network is working fine other than we can't connect to a printer or map a drive on a particular workstation. That machine can use other network resources, but we can't connect to it. We can ping ok, but not connect. Any ideas?

check the networking ID stuff, like the workgroup or domain name. just verify all settings are identical (except the name and IP) to the other win2k boxes.

Are you sharing internet access on this network ?

Would you have some kind of software or hardware firewall installed.?

Do you have the same log on info on all machines ?

Do you have the same protocols installed on all systems ?

Yes, we have internet access via a dsl modem. Yes, we have a hardware firewall, but we've had this problem since before it was installed between the dsl modem and our hub. Everything is the same on all pc's except for 1 98 machine and 1 xp machine.
