I can ping but cannot connect to internet. this was a problem i encountered after purchasing a used pc running xp on IE 8. After spending several hours tinkering with IE and windows firewall settings, i decided to remove the only other suspect Norton.
When i attempted to remove Norton, it failed.I then went online using my wireless pc and downloaded the Norton removal tool from here
http://service1.symantec.com/suppor...
i burned the file on a cd and run it on the problem pc and rebooted.
I WAS THEN ABLE TO CONNECT AND YOU BET I LET OUT A LOUD SCREAM OF JOY.lesson here is that a corrupted antivirus agent will block or activity on http port 80.

I've been preaching against Norton & AV in general for years.
How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.
