Subject: can ping but cannot access! HELP!OS: windows xpCPU/Ram: 2 gbModel/Manufacturer: 2002 |
Comment: Hi I have a network running consisting of a hub, custom made hardware and my pc. The custom made hardware is essentially a mini computer with a motherboard, linux kernel, power supply and pci video decoder. The hardware has two network interfaces. The network configuration(web based) interface and a server(web based) interface. I can ping the addresses of these two interfaces(config 192.168.99.15 server 192.168.99.255) but i cannot access the server interface. I can also ping my pc 192.168.99.3 The subnet mask for all devices is 255.255.255.0 Everything in the network is connected via ethernet straight cables. Any suggestions???

Reply: (edit)You should not use 192.168.99.255 as this is broadcast IP of your network. And also why did you assign that 2 interface (config 192.168.99.15 server 192.168.99.255) with the IP within same subnet?

Reply: (edit)There should be no problem with having both NICs on the same IP subnet. However, the broadcast address will certainly cause problems.

Reply: (edit)Usually if a computer got 2 network cards, it's usually configured as a router with each interface connecting to different subnets. IP forwarding is then enabled on the computer to make it as router. That's why I'm not sure why you have hardware's 2 IPs on same network, interested to know about it.. Also please check any firewall blocking on the network or computer. Hope helps..

Reply: (edit)picohat... He only has 2 interfaces on the same subnet, because one interface is for Administration/configuration, while the other is for the server itself. ria_m... Also, double-check that both interfaces have the correct default gateway settings.
