Subject: Can not logon to domain
Comment:

Hi everyone,

I am running an NT4 server as a PDC. From an XP Pro machine i joined that domain succesfully. I got the message "welcome to the domain" indicating the machine joined succesfully.
When rebooting/re-logon to this particular domain it says it can't logon to the domain.
I use static IP's on all PC's,i can ping everyone on the network(NetBIOS and IP) and i've used the administrator acount from as well the domain as locally to logon to the domain but no success.

Anybody any ideas on this? I did checkout the earlier postings about this and the MS knowledge base, but couldn't fix the problem.

Thanks!

Roy

Interesting--my initial reaction has to do with name resolution...It initially connected, but now seems to have a problem.

You can ping the pdc by ip address, but can you ping it by name?? If you can ping it by name, try putting the xp back into a workgroup, rebooting, and then putting it back into the domain.

If you cannot ping it by name, create (and implement) an lmhosts file to include the pdc ip address mapped to its host name. That should hard code it and allow you to connect to the domain.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for responding, yes i can ping it by ip aswell as by name.

I'll try what you said about joining the workgroup and then back to the domain, see if it helps.

I'll let you know!
