Hi All,
I've run into a problem I haven't come across before and I suspect it's a Windows XP security problem, but since it involves a network, I'll post it here first.
I have a Linksys wirerless router and am attempting to connect using a WMP54G wireless PCI card. The card detects this wireless network fine, but will not connect to it. I have checked the box that says "Allow me to connect to this wireless network even though it is not secure". When I press connect, the window closes, but it does not connect.
I think he problem is in the wireless network settings. XP will not allow me to enable IEEE 802.1x authentication. The choice is greyed out and there is a warning message that says:
"Ieee 802.1x authentication and only be enabled in access point networks that use Wired equivolent privacy (WEP) network keys for data encryption"
Where I am this is unnecessay and I am not using it. My other computers connect fine, but they have been connected for some time and I suspect that it is some new security setting in XP that is causing this. I did uninstall a recent hotfix that delt with 802.1x encryption, but this hasn't helped.
I hope someone else has already solved this problem and can give me some advice.
thanks in advance.Musky

Correction, above warning message should have said:
"IEEE 802.1x authentication can only be enabled in access point networks that use Wired equivalent privacy (WEP) network keys for data encryption"
Sorry for the typo
