A router is such a pain, is there any way I can share an internet connection between 2 pcs w/o a router? Or is there a router that doesn't close any ports? (I have a firewall) It's really annoying not being able to play/host games because of the router (wireless solution preferable)

The only way is Internet Connection Sharing which means the PC with the internet connection needs to be connected for the other PC to be able to receive an internet connection:

You could always put your IP (local machine, not internet) into the routers DMZ host section, this will take it out of the firewall section... (Although you will still need to port forward)

port forward is the problem, does enabling dmz eliminate the need to port forward???

I'n not trying to dissuade you, per say, but if you can't figure out how to forward the appropriate ports to get a multiplayer game going, you need to be behind a router. A software firewall is only as good as the person administrating it. And you will still need to open ports within the firewall.

If you still don't want the protection of a firewall, youcan check with your ISP to see what the possibility is of acquiring multiple IPs. My provider will actually allow me to get up to 4 or 5 IPs, but I only need one since I want to use a router.

If they will let you have multiple IPs, just connect your modem to a switch/hub and connect the computers to that. Each PC should get it's own external IP from the ISP. But then trying to share files internally will be more difficult to set up.

additional IPs cost extra $$, I know my way around the firewall, zonealarm is so simple anyone can use it, in addition to that I have norton internet security with a firewall, so I think I got it on lockdown

Why not get Wireless LAN Cards for each of the PCs, and connect them using Ad-Hoc? I have 3 PCs, all connected to 1 network using Ad-Hoc, sharing internet, and files. Never EVER used a router, don't know how to operate one. If you need more help, just ask.

If you go ad-hoc way, and don't already have wireless NICs, then get Belkin cards for each PC.
