I have my primary OS on my hard drive(winXP.
Can I have a second OS (Win98) put on a network directory, so I could use 98 on the PC.

My PC is connected to my school's LAN, and we al have a directory( get on it by using map network drive, or but it automatically going on and start up, so there is another drive in "my computer" Could I install windows on there, and when my computer is plugged into the LAN, and when I select multiboot (it gives me a menu where to boot from, floppy, hard disc, LAN) if I was to select LAN would win98 be loaded?

NO!
You can setup Win98 together with the XP on the same local HDD, if you really need it.
But to use network boot you have had the BOOTP server in your school's network.
