can I feed router from a 4 port switch ok

Specs: Macintosh
ISP Cable in Smart box. 4 cat 5 cables from various rooms in house to feed cable ready TV's and one from my computer room. Can I connect all cat 5's to switch that is connected to cable modem located in Smart box and connect Wireless Router to cat 5 in the computer room and expect router to work properly?

but please explain a bit more.

i gather you have everythign conecting to a switch the the switch to the modem.

but where does the wireless router come into it and where does that conect to and from?

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.

The correct way to connect is as follows:

Highspeed Cable Modem >> Router >> Switch

If you connect the switch before the router then anything else plugged into the switch is wide open to intrusion from the internet.

To feed your TV separately from the internet on cable, you put a cable splitter in the line before the highspeed cable modem. One goes to the modem, the other to the TV.

The wireless router will be connected to one of the cat 5's from the switch and TV's & dvr connected to the other cat 5's from the same switch. The reason for location of the wireless router is for better wireless signal coverage through out the house. TV channels are covered by RG 6 through out the house.

Sounds like it would be best if I used a wireless router to cable modem then cat 5 from internal switch and another wireless router at other end of same cat 5.
