If you share it you can access it as a data device. I don't know if you can play the DVD from the other machine. There is no reason why you couldn't as long as the data rate is high enough.

Share out the dvd drive on the computer that has the dvd player, then use your dvd software to connect to the dvd drive. This is where it gets tricky. You need to use dvd software that lets you CHOOSE where the DVD drive is. Software that scans for you only the local system isn't going to help you out in this case. ANYONE know of any titles like this?
