hey I ordered SBC Yahoo DSL last saturday and was told that it would done by tuesday(6/8) the package arrivied friday and I descided to hook it up and try to see if it worked because my friend told me that he was told the same thing but he set it up when he got the package and it worked, but it was installing all the software then it just froze in something called broad---- Foundation it didnt like freeze because I could still pull up and pull down the window it just staid there forever so I just exited so does this mean that the line is still not ready because it needs to make some connections or what? also I asked the lady if I could just set it up when it arrived and she said she didnt recommend it but I didnt ask her why, why do you think she didnt recommend it? Should I D/C evertything? thanks for the help.

oh yeah just to add has anybody set up there DSL earlier than the date? and has it worked? or did you wait until the date you were told??...

Just because you received the kit does not mean your DSL is ready. It was sent to you ahead IN ANTICIPATION of the service turn-on date.

There should be light on your DSL modem marked link or something similar. When power is applied this light will blink and will continue to blink until the modem has synchronised. Until it stops blinking, there is nothing else you can do. It wont synchronise until your ISP has activated the line
Stuart

Yes, Stuart thought of something you can do to test the modem. Meanwhile DO NOT INSTALL the software provided by your ISP. It is supposed to be installed on the same day your DSL service inaugurates. To be absolutely sure its turned on, call your ISP beforehand.

well almost all lights blink for a while except the power then turn off???and XpUser whats so bad about installing the software early??

"well almost all lights blink for a while except the power then turn off???and XpUser whats so bad about installing the software early??"
Once you run the CD, the software will walk you through the various stages of which involves connecting the modem. This will ensure not only successful connection but more importantly proper "handshake" with your ISP.

Well i ran the cd and connected everything correctly? then I it was installing all that SBC Yahoo stuff and it like semi froze when it said installing Broad(something)Foundation I say semi froze because I could still pull up and pull down the window but it just staid there so thats why I asked does the line need to be ready so that part can install? and also whats so bad about installing software early?

well almost all lights blink for a while except the power then turn off???
If the lights go out, then there is no connection. Wait till the connection is enabled, then they will stay lit.
>> and also whats so bad about installing software early? <<
Because its a pointless exercise. Unless you understand and know the difference between PPPoA and PPPoE, VPI and VCI settings the different modulation types and all the other bits and know how to configure them manually, it is best to let the software do it. The software can't do it until it has a connection to work with. Its bound to get confused looking for a non existent DSL signal. You will still need to run through the software installation when the connection is enabled, that is unless you know how to do it manually.
Stuart

Stuart, Ok theres 6 lights on the modem and there 1.Power,2.Ethernet,3.DSL,4.Internet,5.Activity
when i turned it on the last 4 turned on and the power started blinking then the power stopped and and the last 4 started blinking then they all stopped blinking the first 3 staid lit and the activity one sometimes blinked once like the HDD LED but the internet one staid off that means theres no signal right?

Without actually seeing the manual for the Modem I cannot be sure but the third light marked DSL appears to be crucial one. If that stays lit I would say you have DSL enabled. However, you still need to ensure that you ISP has activated your account.
At a guess I would say the Internet light indicates activity and the Internet while Activity light indicates activity an the LAN.
Stuart

I dont even think I got a manual for it and I think that DSL means that cable is connected I'll just wait it should be done by tommorrow thanks for the help

It will NOT work untill your ISP has turned on your connection. That is why is says in big letters on the package DO NOT INSTALL UNITLL THE ACTIVATION DATE.
The software that is trying to connect is BroadJump Client Foundation and it is spyware installed by SBC yahoo. IMO you should take that off your system, as it has nothing to do with your DSL connection and is just third party malware.

That makes sense. Typical yahoo behaviour. I would learn how to set up a DSL connection manually and do it that way. its not hard if you read the instructions. Save you a lot of hassle in the long run.
Stuart

The BroadJump Client Foundation is part of either Connection Mangager (4.0 CD) or the SBC Self Support Tool (5.0) CD and CAN be considered spyware because it does have the ability to send info back to sbc regarding information about your computer (ie.. OS, RAM, Processor) Do you possible have any AOL software installed? There are known conflicts. However, it all depends on what OS and which modem you have. Since your a new customer, im assuming your PPPoE Dynamic, which means you were either sent the Efficent Networks Speed Stream 5100b modem or the 2wire. In either case, each of those modems is a router/modem combo unit, so you dont need to install ANY software if you chose not to, all you have to do is enter the Graphical user interface, and go through the inital setup. The interface for the 5100b (btw. the 5100b will only say 5100 on it, but it will have 5 lights, a access code, and reset button on it) can be reached at http://dslmodem, and the GUI for the 2wire can be reached at http://homeportal/setup . I am a tech for SBC DSL and deal with this on a daily basis. As far as setting up the DSL prior to the due date, that wouldnt have had an effect on your install unless it froze at the point of trying to reach the registration server. In my opinion, you should just go to the GUI and configure it manually, and forget about the software all together. However, if you did get it installed, and maybe acutally LIKE the Yahoo Browser, it can be reinstalled through download at http://edit.client.yahoo.com/sbc/update_center?.c=dsl , just click on "Get it all" and make sure you ONLY select the BROWSER when you get to the screen asking what you want to install/download. Hope this helps, otherwise, call me! 18777223755 is the DSL tech #, and if you get a foreign agent, hangup and call back!

Thats what im trying to find out because its annoying and a waste of space(well for me) maybe you should post something.

You know the CD installation is completely unneccesary. All you need is any web browser and you can connect to your SBC Yahoo Broadband Service. I use SBC Yahoo DSL on two of my own computers at different locations and niether has ever had any SBC Yahoo software installed on them. I have just heard too many complaints about the poor quality of the software on the CD so I have never even tried installing it. The setup is very simple (less than five minutes without using the CD). Windows 98 to XP is all automated.

I am also using SBC Yahoo! DSL and one important thing i can tell you is that you should have NEVER installed the bullcrap on that CD because its LOADED WITH SPYWARE. The BroadJump Foundation thing that you mentioned IS SPYWARE and i am not surprised that you are having trouble. Id recommend you uninstall all the software that was on the CD. Once you do that, you should check for viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, etc. If you need links to programs that can help you remove the spyware, etc, just ask and im sure someone will help you out. If you find anything, delete it and make sure that your PC is CLEAN. Than i would reccomend that you buy a router, especially if u have more than 1 comp in the house... Once you buy one, you can just plug everything in and your computer should automaticly decect everything and you will be ready to go. If you wanna make sure you dont have any trouble, go ahead and buy the D-Link DI-604 router. Thats what i use and is awsome. BTW, if any internet activating or anything of that sort is needed, just call SBC and do it from there, BUT DONT USE THE CD. If you dont wanna buy a router, than i dont know how to help you. I dont know wheather or not just plugging it in will work. But when im using the router, just plugging it in DOES work.
