Hey, So I have just gotten Cable internet. They gave me a motorola cable modem with it. I have a combo dsl router from my old isp. I want to put the cable modem into this device. I thought that I could just plug the ethernet from the modem into one of the 4 ports on the router and it would work. It doesn't seem to work at all. I hav etried lots of dirrerent ip setting and dhcp setting but none have worked.
I bought a linksys wireless access point and assumed that i could plug the modem into that and it would do the job. However this wasn't the case. The WAP doesn't route at all, it just forwards and I can only have one computer online at a time...
This sucks,
Any suggestions?
Thanks

"I thought that I could just plug the ethernet from the modem into one of the 4 ports on the router and it would work"
goes in the wan port not switch port. read the router manual for the proper hookup.

AP isn't a router. Little time on the internet or even a couple of questions here would have told you not to buy the AP when you need a router.
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

You have a few ways forward. None of them include keeping the current dsl modem/router combo unit.
Sell it on ebay.
Then buy a router. Connect the cable modem to WAN port and the Wireless AP to one of the LAN ports, or
Return the AP for a refund and buy a router with inbuilt wireless.I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
