Quick question about cable modems and splitters.

I have a computer with cable internet and a TV Tuner Card. Obviously, in order to use each one independently, my Dad installed a splitter. Here are the splitter specs: 5-600mhz, 2-Way, SV-2B. Is this splitter sufficient for handling both TV and internet? Will internet speeds be affected by the splitter. The only reason I'm asking this is because my internet is a lot slower than it used to be. I just discovered the splitter today, so now, I'm having a debate with my father about whether using this specific splitter would degrade internet performance. As far as I know, a splitter of maybe 1GHZ would be needed. Am I on track or just nuts? Thank you.

Why would your Dad be installing a splitter when the cable company provides them?

Call the tech support for the cable company and ask them for the splitter specs they use. Get a splitter that matches those specs

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

The cable company didn't install a splitter initially because there was no need for a TV signal in the room, i.e. no TV card, just internet. He only added a splitter to the connection after buying the TV Card. Obviously, if there was a TV in the same room, the cable company would have installed a splitter for that purpose. From my research, I've discovered that cable modems, if split, need a splitter with a range of at least 5-1000mhz. I was checking online for splitters that meet this criteria, but to no avail. Not even Radio Shack lists a splitter with this range. Nevertheless, I'll continue researching this topic. Thanks for the reply, btw.
