My cable modem seems to be losing its connection quite often. If I stay connected for a few hours it gradually gets slower until the point to where it is not usable. If i reboot the modem then it seems to be fast again. Anybody ever come across a problem like this? Is it the modem, the line? the nic? All wires are secure and I replaced the ethernet cable, still same problem.

I've had exactly the same problem with my Motorola SB4100. I only get the problem when it is running on Linux as a router. It seems to run fine under Windows 200 Server but the overall speed and performance when running under Linux is far better (until it stops doing anything tht is). I've not solved the problem yet, but I'll keep you posted.

Sounds actually like it couls be a few things actually. Things I would try:
Reinstall the TCP/IP stack (varies by OS)
Clean out the temp internet files and cookies
Ensure that automatically detect network settings is disabled...this is a big one. Under internet options, connections, lan settings button, nothing should be checked.
In your browser's address bar, type in 192.168.100.1 to get to the modem internal page and click on signal. Tolerances are:
Forward: -15db to +15db
Reverse: 35db to 55db
Signal to Noise: 30db or greaterHope this helps...and yeah, I work for a broadband cable place...hehe.
