OK confused here.
Cable modem, router, 2 pc's on different floors.
Don't want to go wireless (unless necessary).
So if I hook up the cable and the modem and router downstairs-what do I plug into what upstairs?
I had dsl and obviously used the phone jacks, but what do need for upstairs with the cable modem?

You need to run a network cable upstairs. There's a few kits that use the phone line for networking and one that I've seen that uses the 110VAC power outlets. I haven't used either of the last two and don't really trust them.
It would be easiest to use wireless but cheaper to just run a network cable.
Hope this helps! TJ
