Comment: ok I have cable internet in my house. The router is in my brohters room upstairs and ran to my computer in the next room. Now i wanted to hook up something downstaris so i can use my laptop to get online. The problem is i really cant run cables to the other side of te house. Its really far and alot of cable. I do however have cable line downstairs. Is there any way i could buy another cable modem and hook it up downstairs and run my internet downstairs too. Thanks for your help. Email me if anyone knows what im tlking about. Tom

Reply: (edit)At my house, we use Optimum Online as our cable provider. We have the same problem you have, and so we just bought multiple cable modems. The only problem with that is that they charge more money per cable modem. I don't know if that's the way it works with every cable provider, but that's how it does here. I hope this helped. Jeff

Reply: (edit)With each cable modem you have to get a new IP address. This most always means you have to pay more money. As said, a wireless LAN would be a plausible solution in this case.

Reply: (edit)I would suggest to use a wireless router but it is a little more expensive. If you already have a router, I suggest you to buy hubs since you can use as many pcs as you like up to 100+... Why purchase additional modemm and pay for additional IP's while you have a router?
