I probably know the answer to this but here goes anyway. I have cable broadband through a set-top box. I recently bought an ADSL wireless router by mistake and obviously it's the wrong type of router. Does anyone know a way of running the internet through the router (and make it accessable to others) without me having to buy a cable router??? Cheers!

Most highspeed internet routers will work with either cable or DSL. Are you talking about modems?

Cheers for the quick reply. No, i'm talking about the actual router. I contacted my ISP and they reckon I should've gotten a cable router as it's cable broadband but surely I should be able to get internet to my networked pc's on an ADSL router. As it is, there are 4 ethernet ports at the back of the router and 1 for the ADSL cable. Everytime I hook the broadband cable up to the ethernet port, it crashes the whole system. Any ideas or would it be best to flog the ADSL router and get a new Calbe router? Common, surely someone has a trick up their sleeve? :)

Is the cable from the set top box RJ45 ??

If so you probably just need a switch not a router.

On the cable modem there should be a regular rj45 output on it , connect a cable from there to the ADSL wan port and plug your other devices to the adsl router. your adsl has to be setup dhcp so it will hand all devices an internal ip address so they can all run on the single ip coming from your cable provider. I would think it should work . Are you sure its a adsl router and not just a wireless router ??? If it is adsl then it is a combo adsl modem and router in which case it might not work , if it is a plain wireless router it should work.
