I am running xp, with a toshiba pcx2500, and using aol time warner.
I know that when I troubleshoot peoples DSL you can just use the internal PPPoE client of xp and just pop in the user id and password. I tried that in our situation and all I get is error 678. I tried uninstalling all of aol's software and powercycling the pc and modem, then I created a new connection. No luck. I tried deleting all connections and powercycling and doing the same thing. No luck there. I tried deleting the connection again and recreating one that is just an always on connection and I knew this wouldn't work and it didn't. So I am stuck on this one. I know that I have sync becuase my pc, cable, and power lights are steady green and of course my data cable is blinking. I've exhausted all attempts. The only thing is that I noticed when I reinstalled the aol software that it showed "installing network adapters" in a separate window in the top left hand corner. So maybe there is some authentication going on behind the scenes which to me makes me believe I am connection to a specific AOL server and not just a always on TWC server. Who knows, I don't know everything. Well any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must have a legal login with the AOL browser before you can use any other software.
Start AOL
Login
Minimize
Then Start IE, or other Web application.
Note - some ports may be blocked. If you have other AOL logins, you may have simultaneous logins over the same cable with a router (Please go to AOL broadband and read which routers will work. Specific models and setup is specified.) We have shared AOL at home using Linksys BEFSR41 router. (Check Linksys site for further instructions.
You must also be using AOL version 7 or higher.
