I have been trying to back up files across a network using a dvd burner and nero software.

Bare with me i'm not exactly sure how to ask this question.

Is there a way to increase the temp cache when you burn files across a network? I have some mapped network drives > 80+ gig each and a 10/100 network running at 100Mbps.

I can burn cd-r's fine across the network. DVD R files and such burn fine when on the machine with the burner but start producing errors when I try and burn files from a mapped drive.

I don't want to copy 4.3 gig of files to my computer just to burn them and have to go and erase them. I can burn smaller sets of files across network on dvd r's from 1 to 2 gig and it burns ok but that's a waist of disk space.

I think it has to do with cache of some kind becuse it gathers up info about the files when you copy them to compilation. Can I increase something to let it have like up to 10 gig? In case the price of dvd +R9's ever come down.

My burner specs are:
Write Speed: 16X DVD+R, 4X DVD+RW, 4X DVD+R9, 16X DVD-R, 4X DVD-RW, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW
Read Speed: 48X CD-ROM, 16X DVD-ROM
Interface: ATAPI / E-IDE
Buffer: 2MB
and Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
Other computer specs are in my sig.

Networked computer where mapped drives are physically installed is a P3 500mhz / 512mb pc133 with hard drives running on a ata/133 raid/IDE controller card.

No other computers are being used across network when trying to preform this backup. I even tried shutting down everything but computer to copy from and the computer with burner.

Thanks
Chad

Have you tried to reduce the write speed? or increase your network bandwidth to a gigabit network.

There should be an option in your burning software to write the information to a temp file on the c: drive first before burning the DVD.

I burn as only 4x Don't have the money to buy gigabit cards and hub.

I have 57 gig of free space with 16mb minimum disk space reserved. Should I up it to minimum of 5 gig? for the cache?
