I am currently running a toshiba laptop through a network on a linksys router. There are 3 computers in total connected on the network. Anyway i set the dvd drive on my bros Compaq desktop computer to be shared on the network so i can acess it from mine. It was succesful and i mapped the network drive so on my toshiba it appears under "My Computer" as drive "F:". I have no problems accessing any files whatsoever. But when i open up nero to try to burn the contents of that DVD in the compaq directly to the dvd burner on mine, i cannot choose the mapped network drive "F:" as the source drive. The only option it gives me is for the dvd r/rw drive on my toshiba. I do not want to have to resort to the option of created an image of that dvd and using a virtual dvd rom just to copy that dvd. I want to copy it directly from the other computers DVD Rom. Is there any way I can do this? Do i need a specific program?

You left out (I'm assuming) one important detail. You are not trying to "burn the contents" of the DVD, you are trying to "make a copy" of that DVD. Is that correct? At least that would explain your problem.

When you select the option to Copy a Disk in Nero, it needs to have a disc available. When you mapped to the DVD Drive, your computer does not recognize it as an optical drive. For all it knows it could be a floppy, hard-drive or a subfolder within some device.

I remember that Nero had put out a utility a while back that would allow you to burn TO a drive that was on the network - but I think they may have pulled it. If it's still available, you should be able to burn the disk to your burner from your brother's computer.

There is no other software solution that I am aware of. A hardware solution would be to get an external burner, but that costs money.
