I have an old computer sitting in my basement that I would like to turn into a print server. How would I turn this computer into a print server for my USB Printers?

We currently have one XP computer sharing the printers, but the problem is that on vista when I try to add a shared printer it says "access denied." I need to be able to somehow print on vista.

I'd trouble shoot the the access denied before I set up another computer.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I use a tiny HP Evectra loaded with Windows 2000 for a printserver. Simply enable the guest account.

XP(Pro) has an automatic guest account available which is turned off by default. I'm not sure whether simply enabling the guest account will allow your other systems to access the printers. It's certainly worth a try. The other options I've seen canvassed include creation of an account in the XP machine for each user identical to the login particulars for those machines. I've not gone down that road so cannot say for sure whether that is a viable option.

I tried both of those and it did not work. Any other suggestions?

I once had a problem with sharing a printer hooked up to a computer in my network. I finally discovered that there is an option in the printer setting that enables it to be shared.

Try going to the Control Panel >> Printers and Faxes then right click and hit properties on the printer. Then check the sharing tab and see if it is shared.
