Hi Have a BT Broadband connection which uses a USB extrernal Modem.
What i want to do is setup a home network to share the net connection without spend the £169 for the BT Hardware.
At the moment the two pcs are going to be wired using a X-LAN cable, but that means the Host pc needs to be on in order for the Guest to access the modem.
Is there any way to set the two (or more) machines to access the net without the others being on (i.e. can you get LAN and USB hubs?)

Get a highspeed internet router with 4 ports. The cablemodem plugs into the WAN port on it and then plug your clients into the other ports.

re above: nothing like stating the obvious without adding fact,
Bazz you need a BEFSRU31 made by Linksys
or Belkin equivalent 4 port USB switchthey are approx 100 notes , you set up your cable modem and use the DHCP inbuilt server
tho i dont know if you need to be able to clone the MAC address , check that out first.
It also has the bonus of a NAT firewall.hope this is more useful

I have a Mac and Cable connection and a router.
We also have a couple of PCs.Using earhernet with the Apple Macintosh is a simple
process of Plug and Play, just set the preferences to
eathernet. We want to use the router and eathernet cable to
connect to the PC.Since the PCs don't really have anything that will do a
Plug and Play what do we have to do to set this up?Frank

Hi, I have a D-Link DSL-504 ADSL 4 port router. Can anyone tell me, step by step, how to connect a BT Broadband ADSL connection to 3 computers, using this router?
