Hi, One compter on my network can't open any websites in the browser, but can access MSN messenger and P2P programs. It only happened recently, on my mum's computer, and she dosn't know what she did. The network works fine, and i can ping websites with the normal address and the IP address. I've tried two broswers and neither open webpages. This computer has no firewall, but has Norton antivirus 2005 with worm protection activated. It's every webpage i try to open, not just some, and typing in the IP address in the address bar dosn't work either.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Alex

Yeah, I ran a number of spyware programs and the problem was fixed. For the record I ran 'Spybot-Search and Destroy', 'Adaware SE personal' and Microsoft's new antispyware beta (all free). That fixed the problem. I also ran CrapCleaner for good measure. All highly recommended, FREE software by the way!

It doesnt sound like a virus if the rest of the computer is working fine and another browser didnt work either?
It is probably a setting in your router
or the internet explorer advanced settings.
Did you try to reset them to default.
did you go through windows settings and try to restore the IE explorer?

I have this problem too. New clean install of XP Home- the built in IE works fine as does Outlook 2003, but no new apps seem to be able to go outside. (Another MS conspiracy? :-) In fact, my PC's router software can't see the router. It burns me up that I can't see why (so far) that I can't run Firefox or even functionally join my little domain (although it tells me that it has joined). The Router sees this PC, and my other PC still works great.

I've rebooted the router, verified every setting I can imagine and several I couldn't in both router and network settings. No firewall yet. McAfee 8.0. I've set up a dozen like this at work with XP Pro on a real network with nary a problem.

I think next I'll delete all network settings and protocols and rebuild all network settings. Simply leaving and rejoining the domain is not helping. What am I missing? I want this sorted out before I activate XP!
