Is it possible for computer a(XP client) connected via VPN (PPTP) to another computer b (XP VPN server) to send and receive broadcast packets over the network. Is there anything that can be enabled to make this work?
The main reason for this is for online gaming and easier filesharing.
The game i need to use, uses UDP and does not have the capability to specify a specific game server within the network, first it sends a broadcast message to discover where within the LAN is a Game server. and the other reason is that windows Sends Broadcast messages on UDP port 137 and 138 to announce Shared Folders and Printers. When i VPN to computer b, i cannot see the computer b in my Workgroup but can access it simply by typing the \\computerb or \\ip.address.of.computer.b.

The online gaming is really the biggest challenge to make it work.

Any Ideas?

VPN is not really for games.

What you want is not broadcast as such.

You need to set up your router and firewall to allow this traffic. Your ISP might be blocking some ports. In the most unsecure setup some people set up what they call DMZ. Some programs can open ports if you allow UpnP. Some games are actually in ranges of ports.
