I am thinking about buying a domain name and maybe buying the hosting for a website as well. If I buy the hosting is it feasable to have a live webcam feed on my website. If not, what kind of operating system and computer do I need after I register a domain name to host the website myself, then how do I go about putting the webcam on my site?

In order to run your own website you will need (1)A decent and dedicated Internet Connection (Cable or DSL would do) (2)A static IP address (sometimes difficult to get from your ISP) and (3)A Web Server (like Apache or IIS). You would thenm have to know how to configure your Web Server. If you know anything about Linux, then I would use Apache Server running on Red Hat Linux (you can download Red Hat and Apache for free). You can also download Apache for Windows for free, but I have never used it so don't know anything about it. I have never put a webcam on the internet, but you can read here about it.

1.) Will my college internet connection let me host a webpage on a server running in my dorm room?

2.) What about Windows XP Advanced Server Edition 2003 (I just happen to have a copy of it).... can I use a program to host a webpage on that?

3.) If I buy a domain name how do I go about using that domain on my web-server (regardless of how its set up)
