Hi,

I have a network of 5 computers upstairs all connected to a switch, and one of the computers has a wireless network card, which picks up a signal form my dlink wireless rouer wich is connected to my adsl line and 2 computers on another network dowstairs.

At the moment i have to leave the computer upstairs with the wifi card in on all the time to brdige the connection so anyone upstarirs can use the net.

What i want to know is if u got a wireless brdige- such as this one on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5774921343&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)

would i be able to plug that straight into the switch, or does it have to be plugged into a computer?

THanks

Darren

Thanks,

this device is an actual access point that might be able to function as a bridge, but not sure.

usually they are made to go from hard line to wireless, not the other way around.

wireless bridge makes no sense in your configuration. Simply run a crossover cable from the switch to the router for full dsl access.

Otherwise you would have to buy a wireless bridge NOT a access point. Wireless bridge ties into the switch. It then links to the wireless router. If dlink router get a dlink bridge.

Might start by looking here

here is one question:

Are the 5 pcs upstairs capable of having is own wireless adapter? or are they too old?

A cable will do the trick, yes, but it might not be the best scenario as drilling might be required, etc...

basically what is required is a device that will take a wireless signal and converted to a wire connection. I don't know of any, but there might be some out there.

Hi,

I am not able to put wireless cards in all of them, as 2 dont ahve any free pci slots, annd one is a server in a uvubard where i would get any reception.

I cant put a cable up through becuase its an old farmhouse and it would be a nightmare.

All i want to know, is if it is possible to plug a bridge into the switch, and be able to pick up the wireless signal from my dlink router with it, so that all the computers on the switch can use it?

Darren

dude I gave you the link to a dlink bridge in my first post. don't mix manufacturers unless you just like spending a bunch of lifespan trying to get them to work.
