Hi,
I'm planning on building a small system as an mp3 server, preferably without a HDD. How can i make the computer boot from an operating system on another computer? Would I need a network card with a ROM slot in it? Please advise...

Yes, a network card is required with BOOT ROM.

In addition to what jruelo said, you would also need to configure a tftp server and a dhcp server. It doesn't need to be a separate machine. You can make your tftp server answer dhcp request as well.
