Bluetooth vs wireless lan?

Alright, I'm totally new at this wireless jargon. now what is the different between wifi(wireless fidelity) and bluetooth? are they using different protocol, wave lenght or layers?

All the above. Bluetooth is very, very, short range, wireless, like a few feet tops and is generally designed for things like PDAs, where as wireless LANs are based on 802.11 standards, and have ranges along the lines of 300 ft (more with antennas). There was a look of work being put in to combine the to so you could have a complet wireless thang going on, like walking around with your PDA and uploading and downloading info on the spot, but it's been sputtering due to the economy.

WiFi is the name of the standards the group from WECA (wireless ethernat certifiying authority, something like that). Basically a bunch of the major manufactures like Cisco, 3Com, etc. got together and said instead of making our wireless LANs incompatible with one another, lets make them compatible. So a Cisco wireless card with a 3 Com wireless card works as long as both are Wifi.
