Many business class systems already have them installed. See IBM's site.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I assume your goal is to accomplish 2-factor authentication. Instead of the typical "what you know and what you have," you are going with a newer flavor of "what you know and who you are," embodied in username/password and human fingerprints/retinas/dna/etc. Right?

Yes I'm looking for 2-factor authentication.

"How and for what purposes you want to use that type of authentication and VPN"

I'm using ssl vpn authentication on windows, I want to secure this system more so than just the current username and passwords.

IBM Biometric authentication looks expensive.

Well, you could follow the traditional token-based 2-factor authentication solution, or you could pursue something more modern like a phone-based solution. Check out PhoneFactor as an example, www.phonefactor.com/solutions/remote-access-vpns/

PhoneFactor looks great, I downloaded the demo version and it has been easy to setup for personal use.

Can I bring this to my IT department to use?
