I asked a similar question yesterday but would like to rephrase it. What is better for sharing files, using 2 nic cards and a router or going usb 2 to usb 1 and back. Win 98 on 1 and XP pro on the other. Both P4 based 2ghz+ systems.

Can you explaine the simplest and most cost effective way of doing this. I'd like to just run the nics to the router for the internet and run a usb line from computer to computer unless it requires a lot of sw etc.
Thanks,
-jel

Cheapest and happiest solution is 10/100 NICs in both PCs. Get a crossover cable and then you are away.

Use networking wizard under XP and set up the network. Then create the Network Setup Disk and install that into the 98 system.

Off to the races!

Your Xfer rates on NICs will be faster then on USB. Unless you have USB 2 on both PC's and USB 2 NICs.
