Okay, so a *non*technical* friend has bought a Belkin wireless access point.
His setup is a desktop, notebook and he is using cable broadband. The guy at PC World said this was the product he needs for his setup but I am rather sceptical.
So, the router has one ethernet port on the back which I have plugged cable broadband into. Ethernet cable coming from modem into access point.
After much arsing around with settings, the manual has a screenshot of the TCP/IP settings dialogue showing the WRONG DAMN SETTINGS so after figuring out the settings we needed we got connected to the network. BUT no Internet. Any ideas, I am exhausted!
My friend must now buy a wireless PCI or USB adapater for his desktop. I am convinced the clueless PC World gonk should have recommended a cable wireless router with LAN capability to run a ethernet cable from router to PC!!!
Just out of interest, my ADSL wireless router is a 3com, and my friend's a Belkin... now I would have thought Belkin to be the much more widely known brand but have had no problems with my 3com!!!

doesnt sound like anyone involved knows what they are doing. Given the lack of knowledge that your friend has, he may not have explained what he needed to the tech at pc world so blaming him might not be fair. I've setup a couple of the Belkins and it took all of 3 min and that was with setting up client mac address filtering and wpa so I am not sure what you guys are doing. make sure you dont have local xp firewalls running and , you can call Belkin since you just bought it for free.

Thanks for the reply. I can access the router settings page but no Internet connection.
I cannot understand why there is no connection to the Internet if I can connect to the router without problem.
Anyone.............
