Hi. I currently have my two computers networked together via my CAT5E crossover cable.
The Only Thing Is, Id Like to use the second computer maybe as a games server.
At the moment it wont serv for some reason because Its Not Getting the internet directly, its getting it through my main PC.So would a router help my problems? Could I serv with a router becuse then it would connect to the internet more directly, and not through another machine.
Also Do Routers Slow Down the internet connection much?????
By the Way I am On NTL Cable, and have an ethernet cable modem.
Intel P4 3.00GHZ HT 800MHZ FSB
1.5 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
128MB Radeon 9200SE
80GB 7200RPM SEAGATE BARRACUDA
4 GB Quantum Fireball 5400rpm

A router would work but you would have to know the port number(s) that your game(s) uses in order to forward those ports to your game server. No, a router won't slow down your internet.

If anything the router will speed up your Internet connection. Some online games require specific ports be opened on the router to work, most client-server online games don't, and some Peer-to-Peer online games won't work very well across a router, period.
